Tamaki Intermediate Year 7 - Pikelets

Coming back to finish the last cycle for this year in Food Technology was something we have been waiting for. Finally we are now back in the cooking class. Our focus this term is Kiwiana foods. This week we made pikelets. Pikelets are very easy to cook. They cook very fast because they don't have to be cooked in an oven. Below is the list of ingredients needed to make pikelets and the steps to follow when making them.

Ingredients
1 household tbsp golden syrup
25g butter
1tbsp sugar
1/2c milk
1 egg
1c self rasing flour
enough butter to rub

Method
Dip an ordinary tablespoon in hot water and measure the golden syrup with it.
Put in the bowl with butter and warm to soften both.
Mix in sugar, milk and egg.
Add flour then mix with a beater until just smooth.
Heat frying pan and rub surface of the hot frying pan with a little butter on a paper towel.
Drop tablespoonful lots of the mixture to make round pikelets.
When bubbles burst on top of the pikelets, turn over.
When the centre of each pikelet springs back when touched with your finger it is
ready.
Serve with whipped cream and plum jam. Enjoy!!
Ours tasted really nice!

Tamaki Intermediate - Stuffed baked potatoes Room3

This week was really exciting. We were asked to make a simple and quick snack. Our key ingredient was a potato and then all other ingredients we had to choose from a list of ingredients that were available. We wanted ingredients that would give flavour, colour and aroma to our potatoes. We did that and decided to make stuffed baked potatoes. The recipe we used is below as well as the photos of our baked potatoes. They were really yummy!!!

Stuffed baked potatoes
Ingredients
4large potato
Ham slices chopped
Sprinkling of chopped chive
1/4 c grated cheese
Method
Pierce each potato with a fork. Place on a plate in microwave and cook on high for 6 minutes, turn over with tongs and continue cooking for a further 2-3 minutes or until potatoes are tender.
Using a clean cloth to hold the hot potato, cut a cross and open out to make room for the filling.
Fill with your chosen filling and sprinkle with cheese then grill until golden.
Serve warm
Variation for filling: mincemeat tuna ham spaghetti mixed vegetables
